However, you have to plan your shower’s build-out and make sure you place the drain tightly to the wall. If you haven’t picked tiles for your shower, wait until you’ve decided on that first. Tile-top linear drains are one of the most popular bathroom looks. The grate should have an opening of at least 16 square centimetres. While a smaller opening may look nicer or work just as well, it can impact the flow rate of the drain. One thing about linear grates is that you’ll have to clean them regularly to ensure optimum flow rates. Hair buildup can be a problem. Furthermore, make sure you take into account how you want to prepare the rest of the floor when choosing your shower grate.

Point Grates

Point grates are known as traditional or regular grates. Many building and plumbing codes demand specific drain line sizes, and sometimes even the number of shower grates are regulated. If you aren’t sure which way to go, a larger grate is preferable to ensure it keeps up with the shower’s water flow. When using this type of shower grates, it’s important to have a pitch of about 50mm per 30cm to the drain below the waterproofing materials. A good tip would be to set the drain with a small level in place and spin the strainer so the grill stays level in any position. Any additional draining holes can help your shower dry out quickly between uses.

When buying a shower grate, you need to consider the material it’s made of. Stainless steel is often the material of choice, simply because it’s durable, rust-resistant and it can withstand quite a lot of weight. Another common mistake is installers trying to place the tray under the membrane and make the stainless steel tray the only exit point for water in the bathroom. This is a problem because steel expands and contracts at different rates than the materials surrounding the membrane, resulting in eventual splitting where the materials meet the steel. Further, the sub-surface water still can’t leave. For that reason, it’s recommended that only shower grates designed to sit above the waterproofing. These shower grates act as a surface channel that guides the water to the outlet, and they don’t interrupt the passage of any sub-tile water to the drainage system.

How to Replace LED Flashlight Bulb?

What You’ll Need

Before you start taking everything apart from the flashlight, you’ll need to gathers some tools and supplies. Obviously, you’ll need a replacement LED assembly alongside a 2 cm, 1 to 0.34 mm2 cable. You’ll only need the cable for its jacket though. For the tools, you’ll need a solder, a small head screwdriver, wire cutter as well as hot glue and a file which are optional.

Removal

1. Before you get to the bulb itself you need to take it apart. Whilst not completely there is still some disassembling needed. Start off first with the batteries. To remove the batteries you usually need to unscrew the cap on the bottom of the LED torch. If it’s your first time doing this you may find it difficult to turn the cap. You should try opening it with a rubber glove on instead and once you have it off the batteries should slide right out.

2. Next you need to remove the glass cover. To do this get a hold of the collar that’s holding the glass and turn it counter-clockwise. This will unscrew it and then the entire head assemble should come off exposing the bulb. This should be followed by removing the bulb from its housing. There is usually a metal collar around the base of the bulb that you need to remove to take the bulb out. You need to turn this metal collar counter-clockwise until you unscrew it. Once it’s undone, the bulb will come out with it.

Installation

1. Get the old bulb and take it off its base (the metal part holding it). Remove it by moving it left then right multiple times until you feel it getting loose, then just pull it out. Use the screwdriver to clean the base. Next, you need to prepare the LED piece.

2. To prepare the LED you need to first identify the anode and cathode with the former carrying the negative charge and the latter the positive charge. The smaller piece of metal is the anode whilst the cathode is a bit longer. Once you can tell one another bend the cathode so that it forms a 90° angle.

3. Once that’s done, strip the small piece of wire from its jacket and fit it to the anode pin, This will help avoid shorting to the negative base. Next, bend the cathode pin to the negative solder pad on the base and solder it. Then you can use either hot glue or clear tape to seal the border of the anode. This is needed to avoid shorting.

4. Get the file and clean the bulb negative contact because it comes in contact with the sliding switch which connects it to the negative of the battery. Then assemble everything back together and your torch LED flashlight is ready for everyday use. Of course, don’t forget to test it before you assemble it, as you don’t want to do the same thing all over again to make some corrections or fix the wiring. Make sure to replace the batteries too to ensure that the new LED works just fine.

Getting lost while hiking in the great outdoors happens even to the best of us! And although reading about what to do in case we find ourselves in such a situation is not something that most of us do until it happens, it’s good to be prepared for all kinds of scenarios before you leave home and dive deep into the outback. Remain Calm, Focused and Don’t Panic

Getting lost is no fun but remaining calm and focused is the best way to prevent panic and dread from setting in and becoming paralyzed with fear.

First off, observe your surroundings, try to pinpoint your location, think and make a plan. Depending on how you got where you got, you need to get a basic sense of your surroundings. Are you uphill, by a river, in the woods, in a desert? All these things can factor in how you’re going to proceed. To do this, you need to be like Obi-Wan Kenobi and have the high ground. Once you know where you are from a higher vantage point, you can make a plan on what to do next. Try to look for signs of life like campsites, marks of deforestation, even litter and garbage is a good sign that people were near.

Sure, who doesn’t dream of following a trail of manmade garbage and waste to civilization, but if you find yourself in a forest that’s un-yet-soiled by humanity, you have to go about it differently. For starters, travel downhill and in open country. Usually, rivers tend to form near the bases of hills and mountains, so if you can find a river, not only do you have fresh water for survival, but by following it downstream, you will most likely reach some form of settlement or civilization. If not, this is your home now. Planes, drones and paragliders often fly by any piece of land, so sticking to the open country gives you a better chance of being seen. If nothing else, you can write a huge cartoonish “HELP” sign from rocks and pebbles you find, who knows, someone might see it. Setting a fire at night might also do the trick, though it might also attract animals and you risk the chance of the fire getting out of control, so avoid this if possible.

Speaking of hiking at nighttime, unless you’re stranded in your local park, chances are you’re not going to reach civilization within a couple of hours and night time will catch up to you. But worry not, we’ve got you covered. Try to establish a camping ground well before nightfall because the woods can be full of perils in pitch-black. Pitching a makeshift tent or finding a dry empty cave can give you shelter from the elements. Seriously, don’t try to do this after nightfall, stay put and wait out for the morning. Also, avoid settling within a 100-meter range of any nearby river. Nocturnal animals tend to go to rivers for a sip and the last thing you want is to be attacked by some man-bear-pig creature while you’re snoring.

Given enough time, you will most likely find your way back, but in order to hold out for that long, you need perseverance, stubbornness and sheer willpower.

Packing some essential pieces of survival equipment wouldn’t hurt, even if you’re just going camping, prepare yourself for a Bear Grylls style adventure every time you go in the wild.

Knives

Good for chopping, slicing, carving, edging, there’s nothing this sharp pointy thing can’t be used for. A good blade can be the difference between life and death, so you want something small, durable, strong and very sharp with you at all times. Doesn’t have to be just a knife, a machete or an axe would do as well, as long as it’s able to cut. It would be redundant to get into what a blade will do for you, mainly because of the old caveman adage “pointy sharp thing=much survive”.

Ropes

Shockingly enough, if you accidentally packed a rope in your duffle bag before you went on this little excursion, you are well on your way to surviving this darkly humorous ordeal. If by some strange twist of fate, you have to climb down the rough side of a mountain, it’s foolish to even attempt such a thing without harnessing yourself up proper with a durable multistrand high tensile rope. Also build a tree harness so you can sleep up in a tree, away from vicious fauna without the fear of falling to your death. This is basic outdoor survival gear people.

Compasses

Now compasses, these are neat. Unless you’re a boy scout or a 17th-century ship’s captain, you probably left your bio and stellar navigation notes in your other pair of pants or you don’t know the first thing about tracking the astronomical objects to find your way in nature. Leave astronomy to the astronomers and just pack a small compass. Finding your way North or South can help immensely when stranded, so a compass should be first on your “dang, why didn’t I pack that” outdoor survival equipment list.

Fire Starters

Ever tried starting a fire by rubbing two stick together? Not that easy. Sure, you probably have a cigarette lighter or matches with you, but those things won’t last long and won’t do much for you in case of windy weather. Pack your fire-making devices in a waterproof container to prevent getting them wet, or just pack a battery-powered fire starter that will give you an ignition spark no matter the conditions outside.

Signal flare and glow sticks are not just for raves and mass protests. Their uses are mainly survival-oriented for when the lights are out, fire is not an option, or you want to send fiery signal hundreds of meters into the air. You want to be seen by people. Even a whistle is a great way to be heard over vast kilometres because no one would mistake that sound for anything else.

Swells

A swell is an opposite of a sag. This represents an increase in the RMS voltage over 110 % for half-cycle to one minute.

Under & Overvoltage

Undervoltage is what occurs when RMS voltage drops below 90% of the nominal voltage and then stays on that level more than a minute. Experts often refer to an intentional or unintentional drop in voltage as a brownout. Overvoltage occurs when the RMS voltage goes above 110 % of the nominal voltage and it stays like that for more than a minute.

Power Interruptions

There are three types of power interruptions, momentary, temporary and sustained. Momentary interruptions represent a complete loss of voltage on single or multiple phase conductors anywhere between half a cycle to 3 seconds. Temporary interruptions are those with a complete loss of voltage on one or more phase conductors that have occurred for anywhere between 3 seconds up to a minute. Sustained interruptions are those that make for a complete loss of voltage on one or more phase conductors for more than a minute.

Flicker

What can be detected by the human eye and not just a 3 phase analyzer is known as flickering. Flickering or flicker issues are a result of voltage fluctuations. We call them flickers because the effect they produce is seen as such by us which entirely depends on our perception of light. Common sources of flicker are electric boilers, photocopying machines, sawmills, lasers, arc welders, and many more.

Transient

A transient occurs when there are superimposed spikes shown on a current or voltage sine wave. These spikes range in amplitude anywhere from a couple of volts to several thousand volts. Usually, light and utility switching cause high energy impulsive transients that don’t last long. Switching inductive loads, electronic devices and VFD motors cause low energy transients that last for a long time.

There are two types of transients, oscillatory and impulsive. Impulsive transients last as little as 50 nanoseconds up to 1 millisecond. Oscillatory transients can last from 0.3 milliseconds all the way up to 5 microseconds.

Noise

Unwanted, high-frequency oscillations superimposed on an alternating voltage or current sine wave are referred to as noise. This issue is intensified when there isn’t proper grounding and it can disrupt electronic devices like programmable controllers and computers.

Harmonics

Epoxy

Epoxy boards are made of PS or EPS together with, fibreglass cloth, and epoxy resin. This combination of materials makes for a lighter and more durable board. The epoxy resin adds stiffness and PU adds resistance to damage. Epoxy boards have a unique feeling to them and the boards themselves have more buoyancy and thus feel “floatier”. They also paddle faster and allow you to gain more speed from a wave. Epoxy softboards can be cleaned with denatured alcohol and are more environmentally friendly than the above-mentioned materials. This all comes at the highest price possible on a surfboard.

Do Soft Top Surfboards Need Wax?

Whilst various surf brands have put grippier top layers on their softboards the need for wax is still there. Because the level of grip waxing provides it can’t be matched by any type of grip tape.

How to Wax a Soft Top Surfboard?

1. First things first, before you apply anything to your soft top board you’ll need to clean it with any degreasing solvent you can get your hands onto. But preferably it should be an eco degreaser as it’s not going to be as bad for the foam or your hands.
2. After you’ve cleaned the board, it’s time to apply the first layer of wax, the basecoat. This is a thicker layer which should cover the whole surface of the board, especially where your hands and feet might touch it. When you’re done applying the basecoat wax, it is time to apply the surf wax.
3. Surf wax is available in different levels of softness. Typically a softer surf wax is better for cold water and a stiff wax is better for warm water. On the wax itself you’ll see the degrees in which the product is applicable for. When applying the wax on your board make sure to do some cross hatching so you have a pattern on the board for better grip. Over time the wax will get greyish and start to wear off which is normal. This is where you”ll need to get rid of it and apply a new layer of both basecoat and surf wax.

How to Remove Wax from Soft Top Surfboard?

1. Removing the worn off wax from your board starts by having it placed down on a flat surface. Get a hair dryer, set it at a low temperature and start heating up the surface of the board. When the wax starts melting, get your wax scraper and start removing the sticky residue.
2. If you don’t have a hair dryer handy, pour some warm water (around 50°C) all over the board’s surface. Spread the water around the entirety of the surface with your hands and wait for a couple of minutes for the wax to start softening. Get your wax scraper and scrape away. Make sure you rinse the board afterwards with fresh water.
