There’s a reason sustainability trends are on the rise lately: they affect the environment as well as our well-being positively. Being part of a consumerist world, eco-consciousness is a valuable trait which can turn to be very profitable when you’re in the food business.

No matter whether you’re going small or big, having a restaurant, food truck or café, going green is the future and it can be done one step at a time with a change as simple as switching plastic with eco straws.

They’re eco-friendly, made of natural and renewable materials, such as corn, and can be composted unlike their plastic counterparts. Besides, eco straws have come to be just as stylish and versatile, being available in more than one size, like the standard, cocktail and jumbo, and a variety of colours and patterns.

Yes, sustainable can be chic too! You don’t have to end with the straws, knowing there are eco alternatives for all the cutlery, food containers, bowls (packaging in general), napkins and bags, in the example of those made of bamboo. If it has to be disposable, then let it be compostable and biodegradable.

You could further reduce your damaging impact on the environment by being more prudent with the waste management, starting from paying particular attention to the cleaning and cooking. Reducing the waste serves as an example for consumers and helps cut down your disposal costs.

You could teach them a lesson about eco-awareness by using multiple bins where they can dispose of the waste that would later be reused and recycled. For instance, many of the kitchen scrapes that get tossed out can be used to create your own compost that you can later use to grow your own herbs or veggies.

Moreover, you could always use extra food as the reason to start up a campaign for donating food and contribute more to the community.

Speaking of ingredients, you’d be able to considerably cut down your carbon footprint by choosing to buy fresh produce locally. Not only would you support local businesses and boost the local economy, you’d also be able to lower the greenhouse gas emissions.

An added benefit to these changes would be beating the competition and attracting a bigger number of customers, so what you invest in sustainability would pay off long-term. Don’t forget to advertise, spreading word about your green business, and inspire people. The reward would be growing as a brand.

If you have decided that you want to have a better quality of life – be healthier, have a better state of mind and a fit body that will reflect the awesome person you are, welcome. You may think that sweating buckets on the treadmill is a foolproof way to become healthier, but I can’t agree entirely. To become healthier, fitter and stronger, you need to do more than just cardio – you need a good balance of a healthy diet and a good workout plan.

A well-balanced diet gives your body the nutrients it needs to be properly fueled to perform your daily activities. The best nutrition diet plan for you will depend on your specific goals, in other words, you need to talk to a professional who will tailor a meal plan for you. That way you will be able to make the most out of your workouts as eating the proper foods at the right time of the day will give you more energy, and help you get better results faster.

However, with the hectic lives we live, for many of us, it is almost impossible to cook every day and prep healthy meals. Others may have the time, but don’t have the cooking skills. Whichever group you may belong to, worry not – today there are so many nutrition diet plan varieties that you can order online and have them delivered right at your doorstep. I mean, how convenient is that? If you don’t have the time to cook, just find a good nutrition diet plan that will fit your fitness needs and give up the excuses once and for all.

Remember, having a good and healthy breakfast is essential for your well-being and energy levels throughout the day. You can’t just eat a plain white bagel and fuel your body only with carbohydrates. You need to have a fiber and protein-rich breakfast. So cereals, oatmeal in combination with milk, yogurt or chopped nuts are great foods for a perfect start of the day. Or, you can start your day with pancakes or waffles made with whole-grain flour. Toast is always a popular choice, but then again, go for one made of whole-grain bread paired with an egg or peanut butter.

A well-balanced diet includes the right amount of carbohydrates and proteins. Research shows that 45 to 65% of the total daily calories should come from carbohydrates. Moreover, you should focus on eating complex carbs than refined grains as they will keep your body fueled longer through the day. Proteins, on the other hand, are needed for your body to grow, maintain and repair itself. Hence, it is recommendable that your nutrition diet plan includes poultry (chicken and turkey), red meat (beef and lamb), fish (salmon and tuna). dairy products (milk and yogurt), legumes (beans and lentils) and eggs.

To sum up, following a diet tailored to your specific needs and working out is a good way to start your healthy lifestyle journey. Do not rely on all kinds of info that you come across on fitness blogs and social media, and instead, contact a fitness trainer and have them help you find the ideal combo of exercises and diet. Order your nutrition diet plan online for a greater convenience and watch yourself transform into a better and more energized person. It’s amazing how a little preparation can go a long way in making the most out of your day and body.

Working out plays a major role in staying fit and healthy, but proper nutrition is the key that enables you to get into ‘beast mode’ and make the most out of your workouts. A lot of people give up on working out because they don’t see big results as quickly as they want to (no one gets shredded in a week), yet they don’t pay attention to the type of foods they consume throughout the day and that’s what impedes their progress. The thing is, when you turn your healthy eating habits into a lifestyle, you’ll be healthier, happier, and stronger. Eating healthy will help you lose a few kilograms, reduce body fat percentage, feel more confident, build muscle, reduce the risk of illnesses, and much more.

When it comes to eating healthy, a lot of people use the excuse of being unable to do that due to their busy lifestyle. Many of them don’t have the cooking skills to prepare more than scrambled eggs, so things get too repetitive for them, while others don’t have the time to cook at all. What both of these groups can benefit from, however, are online training meal plans. You can order training meal plans online, and have a week/month worth of meals delivered straight to your home, ensuring you never skip a healthy, nutritious meal, no matter how busy you may be throughout the day.

You can tailor the meals for your specific needs, and go for nutrient-dense foods which contain lean proteins, essential fats, and healthy carbs. Additionally, you can get superfoods that are rich in antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. All of these nutrients will help reduce the risk of illnesses, diseases, and inflammation. Superfoods also increase your metabolism rate, allowing you to burn fat more efficiently. That being said, not only will you reach your fitness goals faster by eating clean and healthy, but you will also improve your health dramatically.

Some of the most popular foods among fitness enthusiasts, which are also highly recommended by dieticians, include oats, eggs, greens, apples, and lean meats.

Oats are rich in fiber, and they help increase your metabolism and improve your digestion;

Eggs are rich in protein and are great for building muscle;

Greens reduce inflammation and are antioxidants;

Apples reduce inflammation, are antioxidants and increase metabolism;

Lean meats and fish are rich in protein and amino acids.

A well-balanced diet should include a few of these foods so that you can reach your daily recommended nutritional intake of protein, fat, and carbs. If you can’t do this with food alone, you can always turn to supplements. But chances are, a good and a healthy diet will supply most of the fuel that your body needs to make it throughout the day with optimal energy, and grow bigger and stronger after working out.

It’s been a long known factual truth: white refined sugar is a necessary evil, but still – evil. Doctors and nutritionists can’t stop talking about how we should all stop consuming it because we risk high blood sugar, cardiovascular problems and piling fat which we won’t be able to get rid of so easily later. But then again, who thinks of these things when a delicious piece of cake with a fat layer of cream covered with this amazing fruit sirup on top is served right after dinner and accompanied with a glass of rose? I mean please, if you say you instantly refuse this heavenly piece of delight, then go ahead – fool yourself.

However, no need to punish yourself or feel bad; you’re only human after all. Luckily, there’s a much healthier alternative to white refined sugar today which allows you to bake as much as you want without counting the calories and stressing out about your heart condition. Introducing: healthy cooking with stevia instead of sugar.

How do you do it?

First things first: you need to get familiarized with the facts on stevia. Stevia is a natural sweetener derived from a plant, and as such, it is about 200-300 times much sweeter than sugar. That being said, you need to use only a very small amount of it to sweeten your cakes and other baked goods. Controlling your heart condition, blood pressure and the level of sugar in your blood will be a lot easier this way.

Substituting sugar the right way

There are measurements when it comes to substituting sugar with stevia, you can’t just start using it as regular sweetener. Remember, it is a lot sweeter than sugar, so if you’re really serious about healthy cooking with stevia instead of sugar, you’re going to need to learn the measurements. It goes something like this:

1 cup of sugar can be substituted with 1 teaspoon liquid stevia, 1/3 to ½ teaspoon of stevia extract powder or 1 tablespoon of concentrated liquid stevia. As you can see, the amount of stevia used in baked goods here is much less than if you would’ve used sugar.

What to do next

Since you’ll have a lot less sugar to work with, you’ll have to compensate on the bulking agent. You can use any type of bulking agent, as your recipe requires: bananas, apple sauce, yogurt, fruit juice, egg whites and even water. The measurement is as it follows: for every cup of sugar you substituted with stevia, you should add 1/3 cup of the bulking agent you’re using. Then you mix everything together and you have your mixture for baking.

All in all, cooking with stevia is pretty much the same as cooking with sugar. The difference is in the amount used since stevia as a sweetener is a lot, lot stronger. And if you were thinking how would your coffee taste with it, try it – just don’t put an entire teaspoon of it.

Looking for a destination to relax and enjoy a great wine? The Hunter Valley is your place to visit. With its delightful greens and stunning reds of the New South Wales Countryside, the Hunter Valley offers its visitors clear and unpolluted air and numerous gorgeous vineyards, making it the perfect setting for those who want to take a winery tour or simply relax.

The Hunter Valley also hosts a wide range of festivals and events. The most popular of them is the ‘Hunter Valley Wine and Festival’ which will last from May to June, 2016. The event showcases the regions’ diverse wine and food culture with a variety of themed activities and is the perfect opportunity to enjoy premium Hunter Valley wines and met well known Hunter Valley winemakers and chefs.

Talking about winemakers, there are more than 150 wineries in the Hunter Valley, so where to start? Let’s begin with the most famous one – the Brokenwood Maxwell Vineyard. Founded 40 years ago by three wine-mad solicitors, Brodenwood – famous for its Semillon wines, which are by the way consider one of the best Hunter Valley wines. Pale-straw-green, the Brokenwood Maxwell Vineyard Semillon is a wine of exceptional finesse, balance, length and line. Its aromas are a blend of citrus and green apple followed by a hint of beeswax, and its slight higher alcohol content gives an extra length to the finish.

Following the Brokenwood Maxwell Vineyard comes the Audrey Wilkinson Winery, which offers a 360-degree view of the groves and hillsides of the valley. Chardonnay, Semillion and Shiraz are standouts of the winery, while it also produces an attractive Gewurztraminer that is worth a try.

Another place to find great Hunter Valley wines is the Bimbadgen Winery, the scene of various great concerts in the Hunter Valley and also a stop for swirling, eating and wine tasting. In its spacious tasting rooms you should try the Verdelho, Chardonnay, Semillon and Shiraz Viognier, with the last being consider one of the best examples of blend in the Valley.

Just like the more traditional wineries, the Hunter Valley also has numerous innovative young producers that apply new techniques to create new styles and flavours. So, when visiting the Hunter Valley, a trip round the wineries is a must.

Tours of the wineries and vineyards can be arranged in advance but can also be made by just turning up at the cellar doors. You can choose to go with your own vehicle or travel as part of a group, or to make it more interesting, with a horse and carriage. You can even take a hot air balloon or a helicopter tour for an amazing panorama view.

More and more people today are becoming health conscious and therefore they are dropping sugar from their diet and turning to healthy sugar alternatives. A clear indicator for that is the sugar substitute market which is currently estimated to be worth over 13 billion dollars and will reach more than 16 billion by 2020. However, the sugar substitute market is flooded with artificial sweeteners that may turn out to be more harmful than beneficial. One of the few organic sugar substitutes on the market is Stevia.

What is Stevia?

Organic Stevia sweetener is made from a plant formally known as Stevia Rebaudiana. Stevia is actually the name of the genus which consists of around 240 species of plants native to the tropical parts of North and South America. Indigenous peoples have been using the plant for hundreds of years as a food sweetener and in traditional medicine as well, but it was barely known in the rest of the world. However, as of recent years, after a great amount of research has been put into the plant, the name Stevia is increasing in popularity and you can buy organic Stevia sweetener in the blink of an eye, both in stores and online. This is mainly because it offers millions of people exactly what they need – a sugar substitute that doesn’t affect blood sugar levels, contains no calories all while being 40 times sweeter than sugar and providing a number of other health benefits.

What are the health benefits of Stevia?

Organic Stevia sweetener contains molecules that taste like sugar, but when ingested, instead of being absorbed into the blood stream, they are used up by the bacteria in the colon. This ability to regulate blood sugar levels is what makes Stevia the ideal sugar substitute for diabetics, people who are on a low carbohydrate diets or people who are trying to lose weight. Stevia contains glycosides that can actually relax the blood vessels and lower blood pressure thus protecting the heart and preventing conditions such as strokes and atherosclerosis. Stevia also contains a wide range of antioxidants which help cancer prevention. There are many other health benefits from Stevia regarding oral health, skin health, bone health, but they are still being extensively researched.

Are there any side effects?

There is still a dose of uncertainty about some of the health effects of Stevia, but researchers continue to support its use as a sugar substitute. Also, people who are allergic to daisies, ragweed, and other related plants might have an allergic reaction from Stevia. Some people have reported bloating when eating Stevia and occasional headaches but these are rare cases, and Stevia remains a safe organic sugar substitute for millions of people all over the world.
