Think about the life of an average working adult for a second. Most of them have a full-time job from Monday to Friday, which means they spend 70%-80% of their workday sitting. Most of us spend more of our waking time at work than we do anywhere else. So, the question naturally arises – where do we find the time to exercise? We’re all a little time poor, office workers especially.

So in this battle of finding the time to do something good for ourselves, height adjustable sit standing desks are our saving grace. These pieces of furniture have been proved to help your overall well-being in a variety of ways. Here are some of the reasons why you should seriously consider investing in a height adjustable sit standing desk.

Standing Relieves Back Pain

Back in 2001, over 20% of the Australian population reported that they suffer from back pain. There was a study conducted on people who spend their time working in traditional offices with traditional office furniture. They were given a standing desk to work on during a seven-week period. After that, almost 50% of the users reported that their back pain has significantly reduced. Standing even for one hour a day will relieve the stress on your spine, which means it will make you feel more comfortable and will reduce the pain in your back.

Increases Productivity and Concentration

66% of the participants in the study reported that they were more productive while using a standing desk. They were working through their emails quickly and more efficiently than when they were in a sitting position. Also, some of them reported that most of them associate sitting with relaxing, so when they are standing they are far more productive. Apart from increased productivity, the standing desk increases concentration as well. Standing pumps more blood in your body, including your brain, increasing your brain function. This helps you to stay more focused on what you are doing.

Reduces the Risk of Poor Health

A sedentary lifestyle can lead to a range of health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, bone decay, heart attacks, high cholesterol, poor circulation, etc. When sitting for a long time, you don’t burn as many calories and your metabolism slows down, which means that you have more chances to become obese and develop some health issue. Combine that with drinking a lot of coffee and eating fast food and you have the recipe for poor health. So, yes, by all means, go ahead and invest in a height adjustable sit standing desk and start taking better care of your health today.

Inspires More Activity

When you spend one-third of your time in your office, it’s hard to find time for working out. There are some great ways to stay active during your workday, and incorporating an adjustable standing desk is just one of them. Moving around and standing for short periods of time is the easiest way to be more active while you are still in your office. Use your standing desk for about 30 minutes and then slowly increase that time to an hour. But still, make sure you listen to your body. If you start feeling any pains, feel free to sit down.

Though it might not seem so, the office has its own risks same as any workplace. For example, sitting for hours can be detrimental to the health of office workers which is why the choice of chair is so important in creating a healthy and productive office environment.

The concept of ergonomics isn’t a new one, considering it emerged in the 1980s, but it still rings true because of the many benefits it brings about and if you want to ensure the well-being of the office workers, acquiring ergonomic computer chair is a necessity.

Sure, there isn’t the one ideal chair for everyone yet that’s why there is such a great range of chairs, differing in height, seat depth and features of adjustability, as well as neck rests and arm rests, to provide the comfort and support every worker needs. On the plus side too, ergonomic chairs today are stylish and have their role in the aesthetics of the interior.

This makes the computer chair an investment that’s not to be taken lightly. One of the most common injuries that occur in the office are back injuries and musculoskeletal disorders (most often lower back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome) as a result of poor posture and repetitive work.

Besides, injuries are costly not only for the worker – the company along with being faced with sick leaves, would have to cover up compensation costs. In other words, it’s the kind of investment at the benefit of the whole company.

The ergonomic chair wouldn’t just be at the benefit of employees’ physical health but mental at the same time since having the chance to adjust whenever you want and how you most see fit so it diminishes the distraction of discomfort and as a result increases productivity and the quality of work itself, cutting down the stress, headaches and delays.

Of course, to make it even more ergonomic it’s advisable to pair the chair with the suitable ergonomic desk, preferably one that allows adjustment for variation between working sitting and standing, because neither sitting nor standing too long are good.

This would encourage breaks too which are essential for the well-being of office workers, and they don’t have to be long to make a difference. A five-minute break from sitting or standing every half an hour or hour is more than enough to prevent the injuries of repetitive strain. The future of the office is in ergonomics!

You only have one chance to make a good first impression – as the famous saying goes. When it comes to welcoming your clients in your offices, making a good first impression is of essential importance. When they enter the premises, the reception area is what they see first and it is the place where they might have to wait for a few minutes until their turn comes. Therefore, how you design the place will serve them as an indicator of the way you go about your business goals. Designing this area is a process which takes serious planning and picking out details. For this purpose, you can either consult an interior designer who will explain the nuts and bolts of designing a place or you can do it by yourself, guided by your preferences. Here are some tips to nudge your creativity.

First of all, the entering and exiting spot should be clearly marked so that there is no confusion created for your clients. Then, you should carefully plan the flow of traffic because it can be very off-putting if your clients bump into each other or have no privacy while they are waiting for their meeting. If you have the opportunity, you can have a separate exit to keep the traffic moving in one direction, if not, just make sure there is plenty of space so your clients won’t cross paths with each other.

Secondly, fill the space with the right furniture. Two aspects of the furniture are what gives your clients an idea about who they are going to make business with: the reception desk and the seating solutions. So, you should think in terms of practicality, functionality and looks. The reception desk is the focal point of your reception area and it should be easily noticeable and accessible from the entering spot. A simple rule of thumb is to choose a front desk with enough storage so you can tuck away items and documents that needn’t be seen by your clients. Also, there should be enough room for phones, computers, printers and scanners. A good choice is to go for wood like teak or oak with wood grain laminate which will give the luxurious look you need and you can have it combined it with steel, aluminium or plexiglass for some finishing touches.

For the seating area, you need to choose quality reception office chair solutions which can provide comfort for the clients. You need to plan how many reception office chair seatings to put in the waiting room space depending on the estimation of clients you could have waiting at the same time. You can choose Scandinavian style chairs, with a comfortable seat and a backrest and wooden legs, or maybe leather armchairs. If you prefer a more home-like atmosphere, then a lounge might be a better option. Depending on the room you have available, you can choose a lounge for 3, 4, 5, or more people. Of course, a nice small coffee table is what you have to get next to complete the look.

Finally, the decorative details should be minimalistic but still able to evoke a strong presence. Art pieces, a relaxing water feature or even an aquarium with exotic fish can all amount to creating a pleasant atmosphere. Finally, don’t forget the power of lighting. You can go for a soft, bright light which creates the sense of calmness or low, warm light as to fill the place with homey ambience. And last but not least, a bold visualisation of your logo placed behind the desk or on any other wall will increase the value of your brand and prompt appreciation.

There’s nothing worse and satisfying at the same time than going home after a long day of work at an office, and having to lay down on the bed for 15 minutes for your spine to properly align back up. Our spines are capable of adopting a proper curvature without lower back support, but because of many unhealthy habits, most people, including myself tend to slouch while sitting. And while slouching may be more comfortable, it puts extra stress on the lower back, because of the improper posture, and prevents the spine from curving properly inward.

The tendency to hunch or slouch in order to get a better view at our screens causes increased damage to the lumbar spine, and it causes it to drop backwards, thus reversing its natural curve. Because of this, muscles on our lower back and bottom are stressed, which makes the discs apply pressure on the nerves located there. And if that isn’t bad enough, the lumbar spine tends to curve backwards when we lean forward, and that results in sprains on the neck and shoulder pain.

If you have a sedentary job and have constant neck and back problems and constantly feel exhausted afterwards, perhaps it’s time to invest in some support lumbar products. Some of the most popular support lumbar products include posture support harnesses, belts, pillows and ergonomic chairs. Chairs are the more expensive solution, while a harness, belt and pillow is something everyone can afford.

Lumbar support belts and harnesses are useful for people who have sedentary jobs, as well as people who lift at the gym. These devices promote good posture and can prevent injury at the same time. They help you maintain the right posture at any times, regardless whether you’re simply sitting, or carrying something heavy. Additionally, belts and harnesses can be beneficial to pregnant women who experience discomfort in their backs.

Although belts and harnesses are practically invisible and can be worn under regular clothes, some people prefer to have a lumbar support pillow. Lumbar support pillows are a convenient and portable solution, so whether you need back support at your office, or on the train on your way home, you can count on the pillow to be there for you. These devices are lightweight and affordable, so you can have your back support wherever, whenever you need it.

To further reduce the risk of back injuries and muscle spasms, avoid sitting at the same spot for long periods of time. That being said, investing in affordable lumbar support is the ideal way to improve your posture and back health. There’s an abundance of choices online, and you’ll come across many different types of pillows, harnesses and belts.

Just because you sit on a desk and work on a computer and a phone the entire day doesn’t mean you’re not at risk of developing some serious health conditions. Your wrists and joints are under the most immense pressure here – you work on a computer, with a keyboard and a mouse that weren’t designed to be used more than just a few hours. The bad new is, you work with them more than 8 hours a day and sometimes you even continue doing that at home. Considering the facts, you’re at risk for developing CTS and RSI which stand for carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive strain injury. Along with tendonitis, these are the most common office related conditions of the wrists and joints.

So, are you at risk and what can you do to protect yourself from developing these conditions? If you’re using an ordinary keyboard instead of an ergonomic desktop keyboard, then you most certainly are at risk. Pain in your back, shoulders and neck will inevitably appear – slowly but surely. That being said, using the alternative, which is an ergonomic desktop keyboard, should no longer be just an alternative, but more like a mandatory feature of all corporate areas.

The ergonomic keyboard is designed to prevent conditions like these from happening. The shape of these keyboards is radically re-shaped, so at first glance, they don’t look like a computer keyboard at all. Many of them are split and look like a small, pie-shaped cut out. There are two separate pieces that are rotated slightly outward which is their biggest benefit because it provides a more natural wrist position. Plus, they’re not flat like ordinary keyboards, but are lifted up a little at the centre and designed to fit the curve of the hands.

They’re ergonomic and offer many advantages, but getting used to them is a little hard at the beginning. This is due to the contoured slope which alters the alignment of the entire body by pushing the elbows outward into a far more comfortable position for the shoulders. This awkward feeling will go away with regular use and will eventually deliver long-term positive results such as strain-free muscles.

Another computer element that can cause wrist and joint problems is the computer mouse. While getting an ergonomic mouse is perfectly fine, choosing the other option like a keyboard with build-in touch pads and buttons which allow you to click and drag the mouse with just your fingers, is a lot better. There’s also the pointing stick, which can be located between the keys on the board and as such provide even more comfort, especially for gamers.

In conclusion, getting rid of your old keyboard and mouse is not just a decision to clean the old garbage from your home – it’s a bold investment move into your wrists and joints’ health condition.

The human body was not designed to be inactive for eight hours straight every day. On the contrary, for the bigger part of the day, we should be engaged in some kind of physical activity. However, for most of us in these modern times, this is impossible. Therefore, the least we can do is to get informed about the various health drawbacks and do our best to improve our working environment. The field of science that deals with improving the work conditions is called ergonomics.

Below we will go over three key ergonomic pieces of furniture that can significantly improve your posture and with that reduce the negative impact of prolonged sitting on your health. More specifically, we will talk about how you can make your office environment actually work for you.

Ergonomic Chair

An ergonomically designed chair can provide you with high level of comfort and support. The most important features to look for when choosing the ideal office chair for creating your ergonomic office setup include:

Comfortable cushion;

Arm rests;

Adjustable seat height;

Adjustable back rest height;

Lumbar support.

Ergonomic Desk

The next thing you should dedicate extra amount of attention to is the office desk. It is true that there is a wide variety of office desks available on the market that come in a range of design, material and structure specifications, however, this doesn’t mean that they will fit perfectly in your ergonomic office setup. To choose the right desk, the most important factors you need to take into consideration are the option to adjust its height according to your personal preference, the width and the additional features such as the keyboard tray and monitor stand.

Ergonomic Accessories

There are various ergonomic accessories available on the market. What’s common about all the different ergonomic accessories is that they are designed to increase comfort and help in improving posture. Some of the accessories that can help you get the most out of your office setup are:

Monitor accessories (arms, stands, risers, etc.);

Laptop accessories (laptop stand and riser);

Ergonomic body support accessories (back support, lumbar support, neck support, forearm support, wrist rest, mouse wrist rest, foot and leg rests, ergonomic seat cushions and so on).

Now that you gained more knowledge on this particular topis, it is up to you to decide whether you will implement it and invest in what matters most to you – your health. Although this type of furniture is more expensive, it is a small price to pay in the light of its numerous benefits.
