There’s nothing quite like good old fishing to get some rest and relaxation while enjoying scenic landscapes around you. I know, not everyone is keen on becoming a fisherman, but let’s face it, what other activity gives you the chance to stay outdoors, catch healthy food and work on your patience skills at the same time? You catch my drift. Fishing can also be a social activity, the one you can enjoy with family and loved ones and explore more of what this planet has to offer by trying out different types of fishing, be it at a lake, river or the sea.
No matter whether you’re a beginner or an experienced angler, along with having the right amount of practice, you must know your equipment well. You can’t expect successful outcome unless you know how to use the bits and pieces of fishing gear. Now, when it comes to success, fishing isn’t just about the type of rod you use, but also what you use to attract fish. The reason more people are leaving the old way of fishing behind, that is – the one based on natural baits, and opting for the rather new one based on the use of a soft plastic lure, is because of the convenience and the possibility of reaching the awaited success.
Though I mentioned it as new, plastic lures have actually been around for decades. They first appeared in the late 50s and early 60s of the previous century, but it wasn’t until the 80s that they reached their peak in popularity. How can something artificial as the soft plastic lure be better than the natural option? Well, let’s be honest, there are going to be days when you’d spend hours and hours trying to find the ideal live bait, regardless of whether it’s worms, mudeyes or yabbies, and even if you do, chances are you wouldn’t get as many as you need, so you’d run out of them soon enough (maybe even mid-fishing).
While natural bait can easily be chewed and destroyed, plastic lures are durable and can be used time and time again. The latest models of lures are designed in such a way as to look like the real thing in colour, texture and size, which is why fish are easily fooled. Furthermore, some of them have added flavours and scents so they seem even more realistic. To be able to make the right choice when purchasing these lures, obtain some knowledge on the different types of fish you can expect to catch and the depth at which they swim. In case they don’t swim near the surface, you’re going to need lures that are big and still visible deep underwater.
